waxy discharge

Question
I have a dwarf hamster, about 9 months old.  I noticed a very thick, off white, waxy discharge coming from the middle of her underbelly. It looks like it's coming from her "belly button".  I would appreciate any help you could give me.

Answer
Hi,

Are you sure that the hamster is female? What you described sounds like the scent gland on a male hamster, female hamsters do not have these. It's normal for them to have a little bit of discharge from that area but too much making the fur appear wet or any redness is usually a sign of a infected scent gland and will require treatment by a vet.
