How Do I Fix This Hamster Problem?

21 11:33:58

Question
I just got my hamster a new, bigger cage. I put him in it with all his needs
(bedding, food, water). When he got in he took food from his food bowl into
his cheeks, went up into his new wheel, and he put all of his food in there. He
then ran around the wheel with the food in it, making a lot of noise. I tried
taking him and the food out and putting it back in the bowl but he just kept
bringing it back in the wheel. Later he also brought bedding in the wheel and
slept there. Is there anyway I can permanently solve the problem and have
him store food and sleep somewhere other than his wheel or is it too late?

Answer
Hi Tara,

i have answeres a similar question before and the answer i wrote is below:

'Please do not worry about this, i know it is probably not what you want to see - if you are like me you probably want the cage to look 'tidy' with one area foor the food and water, one area for the wheel and one for the bedding etc.  but hamsters dont always agree with our decorating and sometimes rearrange!!  You can try moving the bedding to a corner or maybe moving the wheel and leaving the bedding on that side.  Or you could provide them with a house to sleep in, so they feel secure - it maybe that the wheel is the only enclosed place in the cage and thats why they want to sleep there.

Please keep me posted - but its not something you should worry about - the worst thing that could happen is you may have to put another wheel for them to exercise in, lol!!'

please let me know if you need any more info.
