Inbreeding Campbell Hamsters

Question
I currently have 6 pairs of Campbell Hamsters. One Campbell of every pair came from the same father. I was wondering if all the pairs will have pups, can I breed them?
for example.
All A's are siblings

Pair 1 is composed of A & B
Pair 2 is composed of A & C

Can I breed the offspring of pair 1 with pair 2?is this still considered as inbreeding?

Answer
Hi Anjo

thanks for your question.

I'm not an expert in breeding - I have bred hamsters, but only Syrians.  The most important thing is not to breed brother and sister.  I accidentally did this once (I didn't know the history of the two hamsters I had but later found them to be brother and sister) - the babies had one red and one black eye and some were clearly not very intelligent!  Mating father and daughter, or mother and son is OK however.  If you think the relationship is anything other than that I would advise against mating as whilst you may still get a litter you might find yourself with deformities - either physical or mental.

I think there are some websites that specialise in breeding and it be worth having a look at these.

I hope this helps you.

Sheila
