Question
I had two Siberian hamsters given to me, Male and a Female. She is pregnant. I have been trying to read up on them but not finding what i need. Everyone says that we will have to separate the male but everything i've read says they are nurturing and to beware of the female. What is true? And is there anything else special i should know? Thanks -Elizabeth

Answer
It is best not to disturb the cage and all it contains at this time. Leave the male in the cage. You may take him out if absolutely necessary (for example, if he is threatened by the female). Do not touch the pups or clean the cage until they are 3-4 weeks old. At 2 weeks, you can start putting vegetables (small pieces of carrots and broccoli are best) into the cage. Take the vegetables out of the cage with a clean spoon if not eaten by the end of the day.
