Male gerbils and hermaphrodites?

Question
I was more just curious from a biological standpoint.  So, then is it actually possible for the non-dominant one to loose testicle matter in response to his position in the couple?
Thanks!

-----Question-----
I have to adult male gerbils (one golden/reddish and one black and white) who have always lived together.  I noticed today that one has testicles that are very large, and the other's pair looks shriveled up and miniscule.  Is this some sort of reaction to being confined to just each other? They do act very affectionately and sexually towards each other...
-----Answer-----
hi julianne,

im not exactly sure why this is, it could possibly be to do with who is the dominant male, obviously the one with the bigger testicles. if its not causing the hamsters any harm then i wouldnt worry about it. if it does then see a vet.

im sorry i couldnt help out more. thank you for your question.

joanne :)

Answer
hi julianne,

no i dont think he will lose his testicles but not being able to use them for sexual purposes or domination within in the couple may cause them to simply shrink away. gerbils are outside my expetize, though im sure another expert may be able to give you a better answer. im really sorry i couldnt have been more help.

though thank you for asking me and good luck with this.
