gerbil abdomen swelling and discharge

Question
I don't know if you can answer a question about a gerbil but I noticed yesterday that my gerbil's abdomen (posterior abdomen towards her tail) has swollen quite a bit!  She doesn't smell, and isn't crying much.  However, I noticed today when I examined her behind that there is a clear discharge comming from her "penis" looking part and slightly posterior to that.  She is also locally swollen distally to that part around a hole (I don't know if it's urinary or vaginal).  She has been rather lethargic lately, but she is still eating sunflower seeds (her favorite food).  I know she is not pregnant because she never had been, and I've had her for about 3 years now.  She does live with another gerbil... they're sisters.  I haven't noticed any diarrhea or any other symptoms.  She's been licking down there alot, but still doesn't cry (squeek) when I pick her up or palpate that area.  I just don't know what to do because my Vet clinic won't be open tomorrow for Thanksgiving.  Suggestions?

Answer
the only things i can think of that your gerbil may have is a tumor, or some type of blockage in her intestine that is causing her to swell. has she been going to the bathroom normally? sometimes a gerbil can swell because of constipation and a little strawberry can help push most things out. try that and see if it helps but certainly take her to a vet ASAP. please keep me posted on how things go.
