Cranky hamster!! Please help!!

Hi,
My friend recently bought a hamster from a pet store. She couldn't handle the thing anymore because it was so cranky! I volunteered to look after it but it is frustrating! You can't touch or pick it up and if you talk to it, it squeals! Do you have any idea what could be wrong with it? Please help!! Thanks!

i'm sorry its taken me so long to reply, my home internet is down.
 My best suggestion to you is to make calm slow movements, no loud noises..talk gently, and follow the intructions on my site for handling new hamsters
