Breeding Syrian Hamsters

Question
I previously asked a question about my Syrian hamster living with another hamster and she said that they are solitary and cant live together, but I have one more question. If they cant live together how do you breed them?? If they are with each other forever since their baby stages and breed them with each other do you still have to separate them after awhile? The reason why I ask is because I am interested in buying 2 teddy bear hamsters that are the opposite sex so I can breed them. So all that I am asking is if two teddy bear hamsters are with each other since childhood and don't ever get separated to they still have to be separated after awhile?
Thanks,
Joey

Answer
With syrians, it does not matter if they grew up together, brother and sister will still fight at the right age of around 2-3 months old, territory is territory. Also think about it, if they are together from childhood, they are most likely related, and mating families is VERY bad breeding practice. They must still be housed separately, I have a male and female that I have just recently mated. I mated them on neutral ground, and got the 2 to mate successfully on the second night's try. When I tried the first night my female viciously attacked my male, showing me she was not in heat. The second night she went right into mating stance and everything went off without a hitch. There is a whole other guide to breeding hamsters you will need to read before trying, and I would also not suggest breeding if you have never owned hamsters before. This is a HUGE step and is only recommended for experienced handlers. Many novices breed for profit, and trust me, there is no profit. You must find homes for up to 16 baby hamsters, or 16 separate cages in 2 months time. Also mating a young female is bad breeding practice, young mothers tend to eat their pups due to lack of experience. A female hamster should only be breed a maximum of twice in her lifetime, and she will become sterile at 1.5 years old.
