Depressed Gerbil

I have had two female gerbils in the same tank for the past two and a half years. One died two days ago. Since then the other one just sits on her wheel. She doesn't seem to be eating her food or her treats. I have another gerbil also female in a tank by herself. She is almost a year old. Would it be wise to try to put them together in the same tank? I am afraid they will go after one another and I wouldn't want to upset the depressed one any more then she already is.

Hello Marie,
it's possible that you could try to introduce them, but I would introduce them in a neutral territory outside of the tanks. Maybe put both gerbils on the floor and see if they get along. If they start to show signs of aggression then I would seperate them. Maybe you could try holding and playing with the gerbil more as well, just to help her deal with the depression.
