The father of my baby hamsters is acting lost. Why?

Question
I bought 2 Golden Bear hamsters and they were about two weeks old, from the same cage, I believe that they are brother and sister, but when I bought them the owner didn't know whether they were boy or girl hamsters, they were too young.  They began sleeping together, but they also would fight.  I bought them in mid- November, and the day after Christmas in the same year, one of them had babies.  (I'm just guessing that's the mother) and the father is acting lost, never even going to the same floor as the mother hamster (I have a tri--level cage.)  Why is he doing this?  Thanks for all your help.

Answer
Hi Deanna,

He is probably acting this way because of the babies. I would suggest keeping a close eye on him if he goes around the babies. It is rare for a male and female hamster of this type to live together without one or both of them getting hurt from fighting and the males have been known to kill babies when in the same cage.
