Question
We got a male Russian hampster today. My newphew who lives with us would like to get one, too. Is it ok to mix different kinds of hampsters(say a Russian and a Teddy Bear)in one cage, if so which ones would do well with the Russian.

Answer
Hi Linda,

No, it is not ok to put a Russian Dwarf hamster with a Teddy Bear hamster. Teddy Bear hamsters are a type of Syrian hamster, they are solitary, which means they like to live alone.
However, any type of Dwarf hamsters will live together in the same cage and generally do better in pairs.
I would suggest getting another Russian or a different type of Dwarf hamster.
