Question
Hi Heather, my name is Zoe, im 15 years old, please exscusee any bad spelling i have learning difficulties so im not to good at it. and if any of my sentances don't make sence please tell me so i can explain.

I have 8 syarian hamsters, the 5 girls live togethre, but they are not fighting because they have bee together since birth, same for the two boys, i had to seperate a boy from the 3, because he was born later and was fighting.

But on the real question, it is about the bottem set of hamster teeth, the top set seem easy to keep down, but the bottem set do not, i have been told tha wood chews are best for this, but some of my hamsters have not even touched them?

and is it possible for hamsters, that have lived with clean hamsters all their life to just get wet tail?

Thank you  for your time Heather

Answer
In my opinion, wood chews are not best. My hamsters rarely used them, same as yours. What works for me is hard food treats. Vitakraft brand raviolos are hard treats that my hamsters loved eating and gnawing. Anything that is sold in a pet store that is food and hard for a hamster is what works for keeping their teeth gnawed down. As for wet tail, even hamsters kept in clean environments with other hamsters can get wet tail. It's caused by bacteria, but if you feed them too much "fresh" food like lettuce, strawberries, etc, it can cause intestinal upset and diarrhea, which can lead to wet tail. Stress can also cause wet tail in an otherwise healthy hamster.
