Hamster poo

21 13:30:13

Question
Is there any reason why my hamster would be eating it's own poo?
I picked him up and he started to spit out all the food in his pouch along with a lot of poo.
I'm a bit concerned.
Thanks
Olivia

The cage is massive. running wheel, ladders etc

Answer
Dear Olivia,
thank you for your question.
Hamsters eat their poop sometimes (to get back bacteria important for their digestion) and many store their food and use the place as a toilet, too (not for peeing though). That's normal, although I cannot tell you why they do this. Some hamsters even like to put treats into their toilet corner
and pee on them.
I hope I was of some help
