Question
QUESTION: Does this mean my hamster has wet tail ... it has green poop and it's slimmy...
but it eats and hasn't died. But it's tail is wet and even up on top of the tail is
wet. it's a female could it just be a period type thing...........

ANSWER: HI Miranda

Female hamsters don't have periods as such, although they occasionally have a very slight discharge.

I would advise you getting your hamster to a vet urgently. Hamster's poo should be solid and brown, not green and slimey.  If it is slimey there could be some sort of bowel infection and this is pus coming out of her.  Wet tail is usually more diarrhea.  If it is an infection it needs treating with antibiotics.  In any event your hamster could be dehydrating and in pain, therefore veterinary advice is needed as quickly as possible.

Hope you get on OK

QUESTION: Thank you ...she is ok by the way a day after i sent that it just cleared up ...but now she is being very territorial and won't let my other hamster go in the top of their cage... and i think she seems more fatter now is she pregnant ...sorry she just has problems lol

Answer
Hi Miranda

What type of hamster is this?  If she is Syrian then she should be living alone anyway as they are solitary creatures so the male needs moving to his own cage immediately.  If she is a dwarf, then be careful - they mate again the day they give birth - so unless you were planning to have loads of hamsters, you ought to consider removing the male.  At 4 weeks her babies need to  be sexed and the boys taken out - they can live together, the girls can live with the mum.  If these are Syrians, the boys need to be removed from the cage at 4 weeks and at 6 weeks they all need their own cages, including the girls.  Syrian gestation period is 16-18 days, dwarf is usually 18-21 days.  When they are pregnant they can get aggressive towards the males.
