how can i tell whether my hamster is a male or female .
that would allow me to separate them in order to avoid breeding at young age .

The best way that I can tell you how to sex hamsters is by pictures. Here is a link on how to sex them. It's going to take a little while to get used to holding them to sex them and they may nip you a little but don't worry. :)
