P.S. I really like dwarf or russion hamsters but I would take any kind.
-----Answer-----
dear Makayla,

Congratulations on deciding toy buy a hamster. They are relatively in expensive, and are a ton of fun! Most hamsters cost about $10 at petco/petsmart. A cage will be about $20-30, they range in shapes sizes, and colors. Try to find a cage with vertical or no bars. a 10 gallon glass tank is the perfect cage, and your hamster will love it too!
Dwarf hamsters are more "fun" in my opinion, they are more playful. Be careful though they are fast and small, making it hard to catch them if they get away.
Food and bedding are about $5 each, which you will need to buy every two to three months.
Extra treats, and toys are fun, but not necessary. Hamsters love fruits and veggies without a lot of sugar.
Altogether, Buying a hamster and all its necessities to get started will cost about $40- 50.
Hope this helps, e-mail me back with any other questions!
Sincerely,
Sarah

Answer
dear Makayla,
I think a dwarf hamster is a great pet for anyone who is loving, and can devote lots of attention to their pet. A dwarf hamster is a good alternative to a Syrian, only because they are more playful. I think you would love having a dwarf hamster, and if you buy it from a pet store, and decide you don't like it, you can return it!
I think you should definitely consider a dwarf hamster.
hope this helps!
