Question
hi my name is tyller,

my syberian dawrf hampster is always biting her back leg. do you know why? She also itches quite freakwently.    on the back of her neck the hair is seperating and you can see pink skin it almost loooks like it is wet. WHY?

Answer
Hi Tyller,

First, make sure you have Aspen or Carefresh bedding.  (Pine and Cedar beddings cause skin allergies, which would explain why your hamster is always scratching.)

If you've switched to Aspen or Carefresh bedding, and your hamster is still scratching, he may have mites.  Buy anti-mite spray, made for small animals, at a pet store.  Spray the hamster's body, and cover the head while you're spraying.  Clean the cage and spray it with the anti-mite spray, as well.

Also, if you have other animals, such as a cat or a dog, keep them out of the room where the hamster is.  Cats and dogs can leave fleas behind which will then jump on the hamster.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
