Wet tail , need help!

Question
My female hamster just gave birth to 6 baby hamsters on 10 march. One of the baby hamsters is unusually small and it's legs is so thin and the fur is messy. I took 2 hamsters from the mother litter and it includes the tiniest hamster. The hamster started to have a tail which is wet and it is having diarrhea. The diarrhea is foul-smelling and the hamster squeaks when my hands come down to touch her. (Pst I always wash my hands of course ) My hamster is roborovski and I think it is due to her leaving the litter. Do I put her back?

Answer
Hi Wei,

No, you shouldn't put the baby hamster back.  Wet tail is contagious. The baby hamster should go to the vet immediately, as wet tail is fatal without treatment.  The vet will most likely give the hamster antibiotics.

Since the baby has been taken from its mother, you'll have to raise it on your own.  Ask the vet about feeding and other care.

I hope she's okay!

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
