Hamsters are solitary animals

Question
I have read that hamsters are solitary animals but will they get lonley?  I know that most animals are better with a friend what about hamsters?  In case it matters I have a female black bear hamster.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer
Hi Becca,

I know it seems like they would get lonely, but the fact is that they are solitary by nature, so they're quite used to it.  Even when they decide to mate, they part soon afterwards.  When people try to put 2 Syrian hamsters together, anyway, this only leads to fights among the hamsters, sometimes resulting in death.  And in your case, with a female, this would be especially true, as females are naturally more aggressive.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
