help!!

ok so for christmas my brother got my hamster a tiki hut and he can climb on it and he figured out how to get out. so the past two nights hes gotten out of his cage without me hearing his lid open and i have no idea how he got onto the ground cuz his cage is on my desk and there is nothing for him to climb down on so he must have jumped and thats y im here. my mom heard him making weird noises while he was sleeping. but when i wole him up he breathed fine. it was like weezing and rattiling and its scaring me. whats wrong with him?

Hi Britnee, its a fact that hamsters are far better at falling from heights than they are at climbing, they arent as nimble as other rodents and use this to their advantage when escaping from cages! he may have hurt himself when he fell, give him a check over for any marks or cuts and observe him over night for changes. if you are still concerned pop him to your vet for a more thorough check up. in the mean time either remove the new hut or change its position so he cant reach the lid on it. if your still concerned about him escaping, and if the cage will fit, try putting it in an empty bath over night, that way if he does escape he wont be able to get further than the bath, if you do this though make sure there is nothing toxic near by that he could eat and leave the plug in! good luck, i hope he improves, Jen
