My Glue Eating Hamster

21 12:01:41

Question
Recently I bought a cage in which the ramp up to the food dish was too slippery for my hamster. My solution to this problem was to hot glue gun a sock to the ramp for added traction. I put the ramp back in upon the drying of the glue. Since then, my hamster has taken to tearing up and chewing away at the sock, and more specifically, the glue. I am concerned for the health of my hamster and need to know what steps I should take to ensure that it does not injest any more glue. I would also like to know how severe the health issues concerning my hamster may become from what glue she has already eaten. Thank you for your reply.

Answer
Hello, to insure your hamster doesn't chew anymore glue remove the ramp. Look at what the glue is made out of if it's made out of any toxic chemicals then get rid of the glue immediently if it's non-toxic you could leave it in there until you found something better and more easier to digest. Eating glue can sometimes cause them to get sick because the glue could get impacted or lodged in their stomach and they could get sick or die as a result. If your hamster is doing fine now then there's not much to worry about. Try to find another way to cause traction on the ramp without using glue. hmmm.. is there anyway way you could scratch up the ramp so it raises up a little bit. that would be the best thing to do. or if that doesn't work, wrap the sock around the ramp and hot glue the underside of the ramp so he can't get to the glue and eat it. :-)
