Dwarf hamster w/facial swelling

Question
I probably know the answer to this, but I am looking for an easier way out than to go to the vet. I have 2 dwarf hamsters in the same cage, for a few months now. One got out the other day- don't know how, no doors open, no broken wires on the cage etc. Now, I just noticed one of them (maybe the one that got out???) has a swelling next to her nose. I can't tell if it is a scratch or an abscess or what. Any ideas what to do- besides go to the vet? She is acting fine, running around, running in her wheel, seems to be eating ok. What to do? What to do? And any tips on finding a good vet for dwarf? I have one for my cats, but not sure if he does small animals. Thanks!!!

Answer
IF it is an abcess the infection alone could lead to the demise of the little hammie.  My suggestion, call your vet and simply ask them if they see hamsters.  Most of them do not charge as much to see something like a hamster compared to a cat.  If it were me, I'd get it checked out.  There really isn't anything you can do until you find out exactly what's going on.
