Question
My gerbils are 2 years old and they both have bloody noses and there eyes dont open fully.  They also eat so much and constantly sleep.

Answer
Hi Madison,

I am not very experienced in gerbils so I did some research on them and found that gerbils mucus is often mistaken for blood, as it is a reddish color. But the most common cause for a true bloodly nose is an allergy. And with thier eyes not opening fully it sounds to me that it could be this. It could be the bedding you are using. If you are using ceder or pine bedding, switch immediately to Aspen, Carefresh, or corncob bedding. Also gerbils kept in a cage will often spend hours chewing on the cage bars, and this will rub off fur and irritate the nose. The simplest solution to do is keep your gerbils in an aquarium.
If it appears that the gerbil's nose is infected take him to a veterinarian for treatment.
I hope this information helps you.

Thank you for your question and best of luck!
