Hamster Died giving birth?

Question
I just got my first hamster 10 days ago and when I brought her home, I thought she may be pregnant. Yesterday I noticed some blood on her vaginal/anal area. I moved her to quiet place since I read they do not need any stress during birthing. When I went to bed last night, I noticed one baby in the cage and I am pretty sure it was dead since it was not moving. Before I left this morning it appeared that it was dead but I did not touch because I read that you are not supposed to. Anyway there were no other babies in there and my hamster was being kind of lazy which she has been since I got her. Anyway, when I got home tonight, I thought the mother was dead and I know the baby was dead. The mother was still breathing but was not responsive. She died a short while later. What I am wondering is why  did she die. I found it strange that she only gave birth to one stillborn baby and then died. What is going on? THanks!

Answer
Carissa,
More than likely, she had a baby stuck in the birth canal and since they couldnt be born it eventually killed her. I personally have never experienced this so i can't give you alot of information. I've only heard of hamsters having this. I'm sorry for your loss and good luck.
