I think my hamsters going to give birth!

I've mated my two hamsters together and when I put them together, 12 days ago, after finding out her oesturus day, she rejected him, now she's running around madly, rocking the cage, gathering her bedding into the middle of her cage, putting food in it, gnawing the bars...I THINK SHE'S GOING TO GIVE BIRTH! Is she?

    It is possible. A Syrian hamsters gestation period is 16 days. Since you mated them 12 days ago (now 13 days ago), if she is pregnant she should give birth by this Saturday. To be on the safe side, I would suggest cleaning her cage now and remove the wheel. Put in extra bedding and some cotton balls if you have some. if she does have babies you will need to start feeding her hard boiled egg and carrots along with her regular hamster food mix. This will give her the extra protein she needs to help raise her babies. The nest area nor the babies should be touched until they are 2 weeks old. This is when if is safe to handle the babies for a short period of time and the cage can be cleaned.
