Hamster claws

Question
Hi,
I have had my hamster for about 6 months now and I noticed that her nails are getting longer.  Is there something I need to do keep her nails short or is that something that nature takes care of?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Hope,

The toenails will need to be clipped manually.  You have a couple of options: You can go to the vet and get your hamster's nails clipped for you.  Vets typically do not charge much for this (definitely less than $20, probably closer to $5-10).  Or, you can get someone to help you clip the toenails yourself.  Hold your hamster while someone else clips just the tips of the nails (be very careful not to clip too far, or the hamster's toe may bleed).  Use the smallest pair of clippers you can find.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask :)
