hamsters coat

Hello, recently I have noticed my daughters hamster has gotten extra fur around her ears and her bottom. Is this common ??? Thanks so much Laura

Hi Laura

You haven't said what type of hamster or how old she is.  When hamsters reach adulthood (3-6 months) they can change a bit in appearance.  I used to have a couple of hamsters who both suddenly grew long pieces of fur along their sides.  I think this is natural for her, although not necessarily that common.  The problem generally comes if a hamster starts to lose their fur - as it can be hard to determine the reason.
