NEW GERBILS

I've get two new gerbils but I only have early in the morning and after 4 to look after it. Will this be ok and if so how long do I handle the new gerbil for and will I'm out how can I keep them entertained. PS. How often do I change their beding.

Hi Susannah

As a follow on from my previous email, you need to handle the gerbil daily if you can so that it becomes tame.  I suggest you try to handle little and often - so before you go out, then when you get home.  The more time you give to your gerbil, the tamer it will get.

Re entertaining - as said before - get loads and loads and loads of cardboard - they will love you for this!  Remove the bedding when it gets too high and too close to the top of the cage.  Gerbils are generally clean little animals and if there is a platform in their tank then they will use this as a toilet area - although you will find their droppings in their nest - these do not smell at all.
