Question
Dear Charlie ,(Is that ok if I call you that)
I'm not sure if you remember me and my questions but I asked you my question I had forgotten to put many important details which you had asked for, sorry. So here is what my first question was like and then your response and then all the way at the bottom is my answer to your questions. I'm very sorry if this is confusing, which it probably is.
(question)    My hamster Teddy (Syrian Hamster) is ill!   Dear Mrs./Ms. Gutteridge,
My hamster Teddy is un-well! The side of his cheekish are is swelling. It's red, shiny, and big. Poor thing I don't know what has happened to him. What do you think could have caused this? And my mother will not let me take him to the vet since we just took him about a few months ago regarding a flu. SO simply my questions are; What has happened to him and what could have caused it? And since I can't go to the vet what can I do to help him at home? Oh and if it touches something will it hurt him, and I'm scared that it may be a rash and I dont want to get infected, though it may not be, well thanks you for your time and consideration for answering this question.
                                     Sincerely,
                                 A Hammy owner in need
(Answer)     Hello,

Is it just the one cheek or both? Is it leaking blood or pus or anything? Does it have an opening or is it something on the inside of his body that has caused it?
Is he eating and drinking?

Let me know the answers to these and i will see if i can help.
Thanks,
Charlie.

(now this is my answer to your question) Dear Charlie,
I'm sorry for not putting in those important details in the question. Well My hamster has only one side of his cheek that is like that. And yes there is some puss on it. No i don't think it has an opening it's most likely something in the inside that had caused it. And yes thankfully he's still  eating and drinking.
                                  Thanks much,
                                    Shannon

Answer
Hello,

You can call me charlie, that's fine!!

Hmmm, it sounds as though it is something that may need medical treatment, although i know you said you can't take him. If it is leaking any fluid (puss/blood) you need to wipe it gently away with a warm wet cloth ( clean one).
Without seeing it, it is difficult to say what it may be, but if it is something growing from the inside or something caused from the inside you won't be able to do anything about it yourself.
If it is something on the outside, and if it did have an opening you may be able to help stop it becoming infected with special antibacterial wash you can buy over the internet, but there is no guarantee it will make the lump go away, it all depends on what has caused it.

I think you should keep an eye on it for the next week, and gently dab it with a warm wet cloth twice a day to take away any puss. If it does not start to heal or gets worse try persuading your mother to take it to the vets, and explain you have done your best to let it try and heal on it's own, with your help, but that it needs more than that!!

Hope this helps, although sorry i can't tell you what it is!!!

Charlie.

p.s - make sure he continues to eat and drink!!
