QuestionWe have had a syrian for 6 months,we found her this morning completely still and taking a breathe every 7/8 secs.Up to now she has been very active & healthy. Is she hibernating or could this be more serious.
AnswerHi Nick,
Hamsters don't normally hibernate in captivity. (In order for a hamster in captivity to hibernate, it has to be very cold around his cage.) So it sounds like your hamster is ill. And, since her breathing is so labored, it sounds rather serious, so I would strongly urge you to take her to the vet for a diagnosis and treatment.
I hope she gets better!
