Question
my granddaughter just got a hamster for her birthday, it was very active at first but now sleeps a lot even at night, my house is old and i only two wall furnaces, i moved the cage away from the drafts but wonder if putting a lamp on over the cage but not directly on the cage would help- we only had him three weeks not sure how old he is-very tame tho

Answer
Hi Marsha,

It is possible that your Granddaughters hamsters temperature has dropped causing him to be less active. The best way to give him some heat would be to place a heating pad under his cage on the lowest setting. Also put some white cotton balls in his cage (about 10-12 of them). Hamsters love to build their nest with them and they will also help keep him warm.
