Hamster friend

Hi! I have a Honey Bear hamster (I think) and she is 5 months old.  I want to get her another hamster.  I've had her for 4 months.  I want to know if Honey will tolerate another female hamster and should I have got it for her when I first bought her.  I really don't want them to fight...  Thank you for your time!

Hi Ab,

Your 'Honey Bear' hamster is actually a honey coloured Syrian Hamster.

Syrian hamsters are solitary hamsters and must only live on their own.  If they are housed with another hamster they will fight until one is dead.

Your hamster does not need any company - she is fine on her own and will not tolerate another hamster at all.  You are enough company for her - so make sure you get her out often and spend lots of time with her.

If you want another Syrian hamster you must house it in another completely separate cage and you should never put them together either - not even for a few minutes.
