Hamster less active than usual.

Question
I bought two hamsters about a month ago, both I believe to be female, and everything was going fine. One of them would usually dominate the wheel, taking up most of the time in it, while the other would ge to run around for about forty-five minutes in the plastic ball. Recently though, I hear squeeks and see them wrestling a little bit, and now the one who used to run around in the wheel seems less interested and sleeps more often, is there a problem here, or is it somewhat normal?

Answer
Hi Joe,

Female hamsters are very territorial, specially when they get older, and should not be in the same cage with another female (or male, unless they are mating) because one will become very dominate and the other one or both could be seriously hurt from fighting. The only type of hamster that can be in the same cage together without any real fighting are dwarf hamsters. I would suggest seperating them as soon as possible before one or both get hurt.

Thank you for your question!
