excersice wheel

THis is just a random question. When my dwarf hmatser runs in his wheel and he stops and looks out of his wheel like to see if any one is watching. WHy does he do this?

i've often wondered if they think they're going somewhere and maybe they get out of their wheel to see if they're in a new place yet.
another idea is that they are checking to see that the coast is clear before carrying on. hamsters are naturally timid and in the wild they're always on the look out for predators so maybe thats why they do this instinctively as pets.
