Robos Fighting

Question
Hi Tammy,

I have had a pair of female robos for about 3 months now. They got along well until just this weekend. When I came home, one of them was so badly beaten up that her underbelly was devoid of fur and she was bleeding. The other had a bite above the eye and what looks like bruising on its front feet.
The most damaged robo went towards the other and was again attacked at which point I seperated the two.
I was wondering if you could tell me what has happened? I understand that if the two were dominant there would be issues, but the one with the most damage seems to have gotten the belly damage from being on its back.
Please help!
And don't worry they are both healing up quite well.

Answer
Hi Leann,

you never really know if a pair of Roborovskis is going to live together happily for ever - it is best to keep a very careful watch on them until they get to the age of maturity - this usually starts at 3 or 4 months old - so it looks like your hamsters have become mature and realised they dont want to live together anymore!

This is very common and is nothing yo have done wrong - they just prefer to live on their own.

It is best to keep them separate now and keep each of them in a cage on her own.

Kind Regards,

Tammy
