just a hamster Q?

hey!
its just a simple question.


i was wondering after hamster has babies how long does it take for the babies to grow old enough for me to touch and handle?  about how many months or how will the hamster look like in order for me to kno i can play with it?

Hi Jennifer,

When baby hamsters are 14 days old, then you can start to handle them for short periods of time.  You can also go ahead and clean out the cage at this time.

When the babies are 3 weeks old, they are weaned from their mother.  They should be placed in a separate cage.  Once they are placed in a separate cage, you can play with them.  It will be beneficial to them for you to handle them, as it will get them used to humans and it will lessen the stress from being taken away from their mother.  Once the hamsters are 6 weeks old, then they're ready to go to new homes.
