help, there is something wrong

hi there, my hamster Patrick (actully a girl!) has suddenly started acting strangely, she started getting unsteady on her feet about a week ago, i put it down to her old age (she is around two and three quarter years old) but yesterday i found her almost lifeless half out of her bed and she was trying to drag herself out, and when i touched her she started shaking madly . Her eyes won't open very much . i thought she was on her way out but i looked this morning and she its still alive, it is really hertbreaking to see her suffering. what do you suggest i do, leave her be or go to my vet? do you have any idea what her illness might be? thankyou

yes your hamster is very old, and is starting to feel it. the problem in diagnosing a hamster is that most illnesses they suffer from have similar symptoms, so its difficult to tell what exactly is wrong with her...only a vet will be able to tell you. you could take her but chances are they will put her down, due to her age, rather than have her suffer anymore.
