New Hamster Not Going Well

Question
Hello,

I bought my female black bear hamster (Chloe) at Pet Smart about two weeks ago. She's been acting oddly since. For one, she stores all of her food and a large quantity of her bedding in her plastic run ball (attatched to the cage. I have a Crittertrail Z). She used to run it in anyway, but she doesn't anymore. She has a small, cardboard bedding box that she doesn't use and she sometimes naps in her sleeping nook. I'm worried because she likes to bite people, stores all of her food in that ball, and also bites on the bars of her cage for MOST of the day. I've heard that this could be very bad for Hamsters. I've bought her more tubing, more toys, chew sticks, the whole shebang - and she just won't stop. What can I do?

Answer
Awwwww, seems like Chloe is only being a hamster and doing what she wants. My hamster choobles constantly chewed on his crittertrail Z for like a month before he finally stopped doing it. I put bitter apple on the bars. You can find it at any petstore. Ane he eventually stopped. Building her nest in the ball isn't odd. Mine poops up there and omg at night you can hear the droppings going as he goes. My hamster doesn't exercise anymore. He just sleeps all day and all night and store food in his home. It's normal hamster behaving. Keep doing what you are doing. Try different treats. Mine likes the seed treats. He loves the shread-a-box treats a lot as well as the treat bars. He doesn't like wood so I avoid the wood treats and just give him lots of seed treats. and he eventually stopped once he figured the bars tasted bad and the treats were yummy. As long as she is active and happy you're doing fine. Her biting people is normal because she is a new habitat and she doesn't know what to think or do. Just keep handling her but let her come to you. Open the door and try to coax her out the cage. And place your hand at the end of the cage. If she bites put her back in the cage. and just try again. This is what I did with choobles. Biting is normal for hamsters though. A lot of times they never stop biting. Mine still nips me when i go in his cage to get his food bowl.
