Sleeping hamster making odd noises.

Question
I just got a new hamster a week ago and now that she's tame she's taken to taking naps in my shirt pocket during the day. Since she is closer to me I've noticed that she makes odd teeth chattering noises during the night. Is this just hammie dreams or should she not be chattering her teeth? She also seems to twitch periodically.

Also how long are they supposed to sleep? I know they are supposed to be nocturnal but she usually doesn't wake up until at least 11 or 12 at night and I was wondering if this was normal? I wind up waking her up to the day because I live in a one room dorm and my normal noises sometimes wake her up and she stays up for like... 45 min or so and then she goes back to sleep.

Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Dana,

Teeth chattering is a normal noise for hamsters. Specially when they are sleeping. It is nothing to worry about.

Hamsters will generally sleep anywhere from 12-15 hours a day. A hamster waking up at 11 or 12 is normal. I have some that are up around 7pm and others that get up around 10pm. It really just depends on the hamster. Being your hamster is woken up at some points during the day, is probably why she sleeps in until 11 or 12. There is no need for worry, it is just your hamsters way.
