QuestionI recently bought two hamsters who were in the same cage together and as I was observing them I noticed that one of them seem to be "picking" on the other hamster. Is this safe for the both of them or should I return one and keep one?
AnswerDear Lara,
thank you for your question.
Syrian hamsters are totally solitary and will eventually kill other hamsters in their cage. Dwarf hamster live together as pairs in the wild, but in captivity even breeding pairs often fight sooner or later. Two males and females almost always fight or at least severely stress each other out. Since your hamsters have already started quarreling, real fights will happen soon an dthey should be seperated.
I hope I was of some help to you
