sleepwalking?

hi. we have an 11 week old male winter white, who generally seems
healthy and happy. however, on a few recent occasions, we have
come home late at night (after work, at 2am) to find him standing
up on his back legs, on his wheel, kind of swaying as though in a
trance. he appears to be unaware of us, until we have softly called
his name several times. he then kind of jerks out of his 'trance' and
looks a bit surprised, then reverts back to being a normal hamster.
is this normal? is he asleep? do you know? should we worry?

Did you switch on the light? If you did, that's normal behaviour then. All my hamsters did this, though not always, when I suddenly switched on the light, especially at times when they were used to me being asleep. I guess it's a bit like a rabbit or deer that's looking into a bright light. I even was able pick up some of the hamsters and they "woke up" only after a few minutes.
