Question
I have a Teddy Bear hamster about 2 years old. For the last couple of weeks he has been sleeping, not playing at all, his eyes seem to be closed all the time, and he is staggering around his cage. He seems to be eating alright and hasn't lost any weight that I can see. When I checked him this morning, I noticed that his testicles, that were very large, are now gone. His penis seems to be protruding a bit. We have just put a female in the same cage with him about 4 days ago. Where did they go and why?

Answer
More than likely he is mating with the female and that's why his penis is prutruding. I wouldn't worry too much about his testicles. Honestly this is the second question I have about missing testicles and I can't seem to figure out the answer other than sometimes the hamsters testicles will go back into the body a bit sometimes. That's the only reason I can come up with. As long as he is acting normal I wouldn't worry about it too much. When you take the female out of the cage and his testicles still haven't decended than the vet would be the best thing to go to.
