Question
My hamster is a chinese dwarf hamster and he is about four or five months old. His privates have enlarged considerably and i am wondering what to do. It happened overnight so this is strange. Also both of my chinese dwarfs (both male) are very shy. Please help me get them to overcome their shyness.

Answer
hmmmm.. wow that seems really weird that he has had a swolen area over night. It sounds like he may have an infection. I would really take your hamster to a vet though to get looked at. He may have a swolen duct or something. It's really hard to determine what he may have but I know he should really consider seeing a vet. How is he acting as well? Is he eating and drinking normally?? If he's not eating and drinking normally than I would really consider taking him to the vet. He is able to use the bathroom as well??

About your hamsters being shy. That is quite normal and it will just take some time for them to get to notice you. The best way to get them to come out of their shyness is to place a sunflower seed on your hand and hold it between the bars so they can look at it and try and take it. That's how I got my hamster to actually stop biting me. Now he comes to the bars and sticks his little nose between the bars hoping for a sunflower seed.
