Sick Hamster keeps stratching even after medication

Question
I used to own 4 winter white hamsters. They are about 4 months old now. One just died a week ago. It was found lying on its side, gasping for air with no visible injuries shown. No symptom prior to that and I could do nothing but to watch it dying off slowly. (It was in the midst of the night). What could possibly be the cause?

Today, I discovered my remaining 3 hamsters are infected. 2 had hair loss behind their ears and partial wet body.

I sent them to the vet and given them antibiotics. However, I still find them scratching very often. I know the infection can be irritable and causes itchiness. What else can I do to lessen their discomfort?

It really pains me to see them suffering.. not knowing if they can survive.

Answer
Hello, so sorry to hear that your babies are sick. Well to help with itching you could try some anti-itch spray that you can use on cats and try to help sooth the itching. They probably have mites which some antibiotics do help relieve mites. What did your doctor say about them? Generally mites causes hair loss and itching and red skin as well. Other than the medication that your doctor gave them try the spray. Good luck and keep me posted.
