Gerbil fur pulling?

I just got two gerbils from my mother-in-law I was told they were both female. I went to feed them this morning and noticed ALOT of fur in the "nest" where they sleep. What does this mean?

Hi Nicole,

How old are they and has your mother in law had them since they were babies?  Does it look like they have been fighting?  
From past experience i have never seen Gerbils use their own fur to nest with, so it is quite unlikely they are making a nest to breed in.
If it is that they are fighting it will look a bit like they are boxing with each other. It can look harmless but can end up fatal. Let me know the answer to these questions and i will do my best to help you further!!
