Question
Hi my name is Emma, i got my daughter a hamster for Christmas past and on Boxing day we noticed that his eye was swollen, so i took him to the vet and he said it was infected and gave me some drops. Unfortuantly his eye burst and now he only has sight in his right eye. It never really bothered him and he has been doing fine since then. We recently bought him a new cage it is quite large with 3 levels and tubs and him really does love it, well i think he does. My problem now is that he has got a growth on the left side of his neck it is quite large and very hard. I was wondering if you would have any idea what this could be. I would be most grateful if you could give me some advice on this matter as i am very worried about him.
Many Thanks,
Emma Eccles.

Answer
Dear Emma,
thank you for your question.
It might be an abcess or a tumor and I can only recommend seeing a vet as soon as possible. It's often possible to remove tumors and abcesses can be treated, too. Some vets don't like to treat rodents, so you might want to phone around a bit to make sure the vet you go to is willing to do something.
I'm sorry that I cannot give further advice, but I have no medical training and only a vet can help you with this.
Best wishes
Jennifer
