Question about my TYPE of hamster.

I know my hamster is a syrian hamster and I've been looking into the different types of syrians, such as differences in coat colors and such.  Right now I have an adult male hamster named Marty *not sure quite how old, but was full grown when bought* I've been looking closely at his fur type and am wondering if he might be a Rex Syrian hamster.  He has the fur type I'm pretty sure but the whiskers aren't curled much like I've read they should be.  If he's not a Rex Syrian, I was hoping you might know which type he is.  I'm very curious and plan on having hamsters the rest of my life and want to know all about them.  I will include a few link addresses to some pictures of him.  Thank you so much!

I love rex hamsters, but unfortunatly I don't believe your little guy is a rex. Most of the time rex hams are identified by crinkly whiskers, and not just on frizzy hair. Some rex hams alone can only be identified on having crinkly whiskers, and have a coat that looks almost normal, rather then being IDed by having a wavy coat and regular whiskers. Since your hamsters whiskers didn't look crinkled in the picture, it is highly unlikely your boy is a rex. Here's a great website that illustrates exactly what I mean:

It has pictures of rex hamsters, and hamsters that look like rex but are not. Also, rex is pretty new to the US, and is alot more common in the UK hamster stock. Your boy has a normal long haired coat (he's not a short hair or a satin coat) his colorations look like a sable, since his color is dark, and he has a cream color around his eyes. Sables don't tend to have that much coloration in the eyes, but that is to me what his closest color match is.
