My Robo Just Had Babies !! Help !!

21 11:40:59

Question
We have had Our two robo hamsters since February, and were told they were both female, Ha! (It is really hard to tell, we saw no difference between them!) Anyway, obviously we have one of each, and now about 5 more that I can see! My daughter is so excited she is about to explode! (Being that we told her they would never have babies, 2 girls!) So, my dilemma, what do I do? remove Jack from the cage? Leave them alone? Does Natalie need anything different food wise? When can we actually hold them? I'm assuming weeks!  I don't want her to abandon them because we touch them! Or WORSE! AH! If you have any advice please e-mail me!!! THANK YOU!   New Hamster Mom!

Answer
Hello,

You should separate them unless you always want babies, as this can exhaust the mother. You want to try to disturb the mother and babies for at least a week and a half, as the first week is the most critical in their lives. You may allow the male back in each day for a short supervised period to allow him to keep contact with the family, and to keep that bond with mum in case you want to put them together again sometime!!

Extra protein is always good for a nursing mum, such as human baby food (cow and gate is a good one) or dried mealworms etc!

I hope this helps, do ask if you need further advice!!
