Hamster age

Question
I have a pretty simple question, but I don't know where to find the answer. I bought a Dwarf hamster last year [July 29, 2006] but didn't think to ask about the age, though I know he was young. How old do these generally have to be before you can buy them?

Answer
Hamsters are old enough to leave their mother at around 3 weeks of age (weaning age), however I do not recommend them to be removed until at least 5 weeks of age.  I am sure the hamster breeders who supplied your pet store have some sense and so baby hamsters sold would be at least 5 weeks old.
