hamster labour or!!

QUESTION: hello can u plz help me i think my hamster is havin babies or nt? and if she is havin babies then she is givin this white stuff out of er bum  can u  plz help me 2 c if she is havin babies or not for hollie!!!

ANSWER: Why do you think she is having babies?  Have you mated her?

If she were pregnant, she would probably have shown an increase in size, especially on her hips, although some hamsters show more than others.  She would also be drinking a lot more and busy moving her nest.  When she actually has the babies there is more than likely to be a small amount of blood.

This white discharge - does it smell at all?  It could well be some sort of infection which will need treating with antibiotics.  How is she behaving?  Is she her usual self, eating/drinking etc normally?

Can you let me have some more information?

QUESTION: sorry but another expert said she may be havin babies and she is very grumpy and she is sleepin all  the time !!! and wont let u touch her sorry for askin all these questions but i am very worried.

It's fine to ask questions - especially if you're worried.  The main thing is to monitor her - if she is pregnant, the gestation period is 18-21 days for a dwarf and 16-18 days for a Syrian - I'm not sure how far pregnant you think she is.  

If she is pregnant you'll soon know.  If, however,there is no sign of babies and she is still showing a discharge, then get her to a vet as this may be an infection requiring antibiotics..  Also, if she is in pain she will be hunched over.
